Lhotse has three main summits; they are Lhotse main (8,516m), Lhotse Shar (8,383m) and Lhotse Mid/East by (8,413m). Lhotse main was climbed in 1956 by Ernst Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger (Swiss Expedition) for the first time. Lhotse Shar was first climbed on 5th December, 1979 by Sepp Mayerl and Rolf Walter using the South-East Ridge.
